ATO Background Check Process
​​​​​​To complete an ATO contingent worker onboarding process, you need to be registered on our online application system (ATO Careers) and complete the steps below as soon as possible.

What you need to do :

1. Create an ATO Careers account (if you already have such an account, please go straight to step 2)

 

Click HERE to go to ATO Careers

  •  Enter the requested details (your email address will be your username used to login) and select ‘Save and Next’ to progress.
  •  As per the email you then receive with the subject of “Confirm your email address”, please set a password to access your ATO Careers account. 
  • Within a few minutes, you should receive an email with the subject of “Your registration is underway”.

 2. Complete your ATO contingent worker registration: 

Click HERE  to go to ATO Careers and log into your account via the Login prompt at the top right-hand side of the page. 

  • You will need to complete a Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) process to complete your login. 
  • Upon logging in, you will be directed to a landing page entitled “My Applications”. 

Click HERE

  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Begin"
  • Enter the requested details and select ‘Save and Continue’ to progress.
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Continue", after editing any details as needed.
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Submit Now" 

Within a few minutes you should receive an email with the subject of “Your registration has been received”.

Once that is done, you will receive an email with the subject of: 

“Action required - Pre-engagement documentation – Probe”. You can expect to receive that from atocareers@nga.net.au so please be assured any such email is from a legitimate source.

That email will ask you to login to your ATO Careers account to upload and submit details needed for a Pre-engagement integrity check (PEIC).
